AIRF/SCRMU Conducts Trade Union Education Programme at Kazipet

The All India Railwaymen's Federation (AIRF), through its affiliate South Central Railway Mazdoor Union (SCRMU), Secunderabad Division, successfully organized a Trade Union Education Programme at Kazipet on 18 June 2026. The programme was conducted from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and witnessed enthusiastic participation from railway employees representing various departments.

Around 100 railway employees from the Commercial, Technical, Engineering and Running Departments attended the programme. Of the participants, 80 were men and 20 were women, with the age group ranging between 21 and 45 years, reflecting the growing interest of young railway workers in trade union education and leadership development.

The objective of the programme was to strengthen awareness among railway employees on workplace rights, safety, leadership and the role of trade unions in protecting and advancing workers' interests. The programme focused on the following key subjects:

  • Health and Safety
  • Occupational Safety & Health (OSH)
  • AI and its Impact on the Indian Railway Workforce & Employment
  • Personal Safety
  • Leadership Qualities
  • Capacity Building
  • History of the All India Railwaymen's Federation (AIRF)

The educational sessions were led by distinguished resource persons:

  • Com P. Ravinder, Divisional Secretary, SCRMU, Secunderabad Division
  • Shri M.R. Deshpandey, Regional Director, Department of Workers Education, Ministry of Labour, Hyderabad

The speakers delivered informative and interactive presentations, highlighting the importance of maintaining safe workplaces, developing personal and professional skills, nurturing effective leadership, and strengthening trade union organisation. Particular emphasis was placed on the historic role played by AIRF in safeguarding the rights and welfare of railway workers across India.

The session on the history of AIRF provided participants with valuable insights into the struggles, achievements and contributions of the railway trade union movement, inspiring younger employees to actively engage in collective action and worker representation.

Participants actively took part in discussions, exchanged experiences and raised workplace-related issues, making the programme highly interactive and productive. The training programme was widely appreciated and proved beneficial in enhancing awareness, leadership capabilities and trade union knowledge among the participants.

The programme concluded successfully at 4:00 p.m. with a vote of thanks extended to the resource persons, organisers and all participants for their valuable contributions towards the success of the event.

AIRF and SCRMU remain committed to strengthening trade union education, empowering workers and building a strong, informed and united railway workforce capable of meeting the challenges of the future.
