AIRF/NRMU (CR & KR) CONDUCTS MENTAL WELL-BEING SEMINAR

AIRF/NRMU (CR & KR) organized a mental well-being seminar under the guidance of Com Venu P. Nair, General Secretary (GS), NRMU(CR & KR) , Assistant General Secretary (AGS), AIRF, Vice-President, Hind Mazdoor Sabha and President, Rail Mazdoor Theka Union (RTMU) on  the 7th of January 2025 at the Dadar Institute Hall, Mumbai. The event was held from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM highlighting the significance of mental health among railway workers and broader workforce.

The seminar was hosted by Comrade Vivek Nair AGS NRMU who showcased introductory video clips reflecting the NRMU’s vision, its inclusive working culture and the growing participation of youth and women in decision-making process. Comrade Harsha Suhas Shelke, Zonal Youth Convener NRMU and West Region Coordinator for the AIRF Mental Well-Being Project  presented a comprehensive Power Point Presentation on NRMU and AIRF’s contributions to promoting mental well-being.

Representatives of International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) Com. Steve Trowsdale, Global Inspectorate Coordinator and Com Dr. Asif Altaf, Global Mental Well-Being Program Coordinator graced the occasion.

Both the dignitaries appreciated the enthusiastic participation of over 600 comrades at the venue. Com. Steve lauded General Secretary Com. Venu P. Nair’s charismatic leadership in uniting, educating workforce, addressing grievances and protecting employees from exploitation. He requested Com. Nair to play a constructive global role through ITF to mitigate workers’ issues worldwide.

Com Dr. Asif Altaf emphasized the importance of mental health for workers, especially in the railway sector and elaborated on the ITF Mental Well-Being Project in collaboration with AIRF.

The program was attended by several NRMU and divisional leaders, including Com. P G Shinde (Zonal Secretary), Com. Swati Mhatre, Com. Vinay Sawant AGSs), Com. John Ooman, Com. K R Goyal (ADSs), Com. Pushkar Patil (Division President) and Com. Seema Pillai (Division Vice President).

Com. Venu P. Nair addressed the gathering in his signature inspiring style, outlining NRMU’s achievements and ongoing efforts to safeguard the welfare of railway workers and their families. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Com. Kamakshi Bagalwadikar, President of NRMU, who commended the collective effort of all comrades in making the day a historic milestone for NRMU.
