AIRF ALONG WITH OTHER FEDERATIONS HOLD MASSIVE DEMONSTRATIONS TO SCRAP NPS
The "National Convention" on Scrapping of National Pension Scheme and Restoring of Guaranteed Old Pension Scheme was constituted under the banner of Joint Forum for Restoration of Old Pension Scheme (JFROPS) on 21 January 2023. A bi-lingual (Hindi & English) draft declaration was put forth by Com Shiva Gopal Mishra, General Secretary of All India Railwaymen's Federation (AIRF) and discussions were held by various participants such as Defence Unions, Postal Employees Union, Primary Teachers Federation, Confederation of Para-military forces, Confederation Of Central Government Employees & Workers etc.,
More than 700 delegates representing Central Government Employees (Indian Railways, Defence, Postal and Income Tax etc.), State Government Employees, Autonomous Bodies and Teachers participated in the Convention and it was decided to hold regular monthly protest programmes on 21st of Every Month starting from Branch Level by every Union/Federation to highlight the ill effects of NPS on employees especially post-retirement. The Demand was clear and loud "SCRAP NPS & REVOKE OPS"
Accordingly AIRF & Affiliates have been holding demonstrations right from 21st February 2023. As a part of these demonstrations/protests, it was decided to hold Protest Rallies/Meetings at all the State Capitals. Com Shiva Gopal Mishra, GS/AIRF and Convener, JFROPS lead the demonstrations in the National/State Capital at New Delhi on 21st June 2023 at Sprawling Jantar Mantar. The protest was attended by more than 5000 workers from different organizations.
Notable among the attendees on dais were Com Shiva Gopal Mishra, Convener, JFROPS, Confederation leader Com Giriraj Singh (NFPE), Com Sk Tyagi (AIRF/NRMU), Com Mohammed Rafique (AIRF/NRMU), Com Rajendra Bharadwaj (AIRF/NRMU), Com Anoop Sharma (AIRF/NRMU), Com Sanjeev Saini (Central Secretariat Workers Union), Com Jaidev Dahiya (CGHS) and Com Suresh Kumar (CDRA).
Speaking on the occasion Com Shiva Gopal Mishra said, Employees work for 3 to 4 decades for the development of the nation in various capacities putting in their blood and sweat but on superannuation are paid a paltry amount of Rs 800 to Rs 1500/- per mensem as pension, which is totally unjustified. He further said on Indian Railways the youth who have joined on or after 01 January 2004 are covered under NPS and are totally disgruntled and unhappy with the Government's attitude.
In an interview to a TV Channel Com Shiva Gopal Mishra said that "If the Govt ignores our protest, we we will be compelled to March to the Parliament next month, it is wise that Govt takes a Considerate view and Scraps NPS and revoke OPS".
Later a memorandum was submitted to the Lt Governor of Delhi by a delegation of JFROPS led by Com Shiva Gopal Mishra demanding the scrapping of NPS.
Earlier there were slogans "One Who discusses about OPS will only form the next Govt", NPS Go Back, We Want OPS etc.,
Reports of similar demonstrations were received from AIRF/SWREU (Karnataka State), AIRF/SCRMU (Telangana State), AIRF/WREU (Maharsahtra/Gujarat State), AIRF/ECoRSU (Orissa State), AIRF/ECRKU (Bihar/Jharkand State), AIRF/NWREU (Rajasthan State), AIRF/ERMU (West Bengal State), AIRF/NRMU CR/KR (Maharashtra/Goa State) etc.,
