INDIAN GOVERNMENT SETS UP A

 COMMITTEE TO 'IMPROVE NPS'

AIRF Rejects the announcement of Committee and reiterates demand for OPS

The Indian Government announced setting up a Committee to 'Improve the National Pension Scheme (NPS)'. There have been wide spread protests by the working class belonging to State and Central Government. Mr Shiva Gopal Mishra, General Secretary of All India Railwaymen's Federation (AIRF) had launched a Digital Campaign at Johannesburg, South Africa in the Railroad Conference of International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) on 18th March 2023 to garner support from more than 700 global unions belonging to various transport sectors, ITF headquartered at London extended its support to the call given by AIRF, being the oldest and largest federation and also being its oldest affiliate.

Mr Shiva Gopal Mishra, reacting to the setting up of the committee by the Indian Government stated  categorically that "We do not accept anything less than Defined/Guaranteed Old Pension Scheme (OPS)". In response to a question from the reporter of MP TAK live show he said "AIRF strongly believes that OPS is the only answer and NPS has been a big failure with real time cases of NPS beneficiaries drawing paltry amount as pension". He was also critical and questioned that while a politician be it a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) or Member of Parliament (MP) draws pension even if he or she functions as MLA or MP for just one day, why should not a worker who slogs for 30 to 40 years draw pension? Further he said "We have drawn plans to go for a Sustained Struggle for achievement of ultimate and legitimate right of OPS" He exuded confidence that "Come What May We Will Achieve Our Goal"
