AIRF AFFILIATES ROAR TO SCRAP NPS ALL OVER INDIAN RAILWAYS.

    In response to the Clarion Call given by All India Railwaymen's Federation (AIRF) to all its affiliates in 17 zonal railways and 6 production units comprising of about 1.2 million workers on Indian Railways to raise the voice against National Pension Scheme (NPS) after AIRF had initiated a digital campaign at International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) Railroad Conference held between 13 - 18 March 2023 at Johannesburg, South Africa.

    Thousands of men and women participated in the protest rallies, meetings and demonstrations held all over Indian Railways in 68 divisions. Reports are still pouring in, while in many places reports of men and women walking in protest on roads shouting slogans with placards and flags in their hands protesting against NPS and demanding a defined Old Pension Scheme (OPS) to every worker.

   The North Central Railway Mazdoor Union (NCRMU) and West Central Railway Employees Union (WCREU)  affiliates of AIRF conducted a motorbike rally and concluded the protest warning of further protests in days to come.

 The East Coast Railway Shramik Union (ECoRSU) conducted a huge rally walking in the picturesque Visakhapatnam and shouted slogans demanding scrapping of NPS.

     The Northern Railway Mazdoor Union (NRMU) of Central Railway and Northern Railway affiliated to AIRF conducted huge rallies in different divisions and workshops and shouted slogans demanding scrapping of NPS and revival of OPS.

    The South Western Railway Mazdoor Union (SWRMU) an affiliate of AIRF conducted rallies and meetings in the Garden City of India i.e., Bengaluru and Mysuru. Various speakers stated that OPS is must for every worker in every sector be it State Government or Central Government.

     It was interesting to note that in places like in Jammu and Ajmer State Govt employees and Income tax Department too participated and expressed Solidarity to the call given by GS/AIRF and Joint Forum for Restoration of Old Pension Scheme, despite the Department of Personnel & Training warning the employees to refrain from attending the meetings to demand scrapping of NPS.

  Mental Wellbeing Program at Valsad by AIRF/WREU Report Submitted by Com Namita Kumayu, Treasurer & Well Being Educator, WREU, Ratlam Branch    and Compiled/Edited by Kona Vishnu, Coordinator, International Affairs & Social Media, AIRF, INDIA.  As part of the AIRF Wellbeing programme a Mental Health Wellbeing Programme was conducted at Valsad, Mumbai Division, Western Railway Employees Union (WREU) on the 08 July 2023 by Com Namita Kumayu, First Responder and Educator of Wellbeing programme. The programme was attended by 72 women employees, family members of male employees etc.,  During the session, the importance of mental health, work related stress and importance to maintain balance between personal and professional life was explained for mental wellbeing.
